Course Overview
Format: This is a live, interactive, online training with opportunities for questions and discussion
Description: Many group workers fear the unpredictable and conflictual moments in groups. Learn best practices and increase confidence for facilitating challenging moments in groups. Real-life examples from a video simulation will be shown and discussed including a group disruption and a racist comment. Attendees will learn how to confidently choose group interventions based on the purpose, stage, and type of challenging moment.
Target Audience: This course is designed for social workers who have some group experience

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:
- Explain how different types of challenging moments in groups each have the potential to impact group dynamics and growth.
- Evaluate group purpose, group stage, and type of challenging moment, to determine the most appropriate intervention.

Meet the Instructor
Será Godfrey-Kaplan is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker who completed her graduate work at Boston University. Será is the current President of the International Association for Social Work with Groups (IASWG), Director of Hope Ave Therapy Associates, and a part-time Instructor at Boston University School of Social Work. She has spent 20+ years facilitating and teaching group work within multiple different settings including: in-patient hospitals, schools, day-treatment and out-patient programs. She specializes in multiple types of group work, suicidology, Borderline Personality Disorder and adolescent mental health. She presents to individuals and organizations internationally in her effort to support group work across the globe.

Refund & Cancellation Policy: GetPractice will fully refund learners who request a refund prior to the start of the course. GetPractice will also fully refund learners who were unable to attend a training due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. sickness, family emergency, etc.) as well as participants who attended and were dissatisfied with the training. If a learner completes all course requirements and receives a certificate of completion, they are no longer eligible for a refund.

System requirements: This is a live, online course that is hosted on the GetPractice site. To attend the course and complete required course materials, learners will login to the GetPractice course site, where the link to the live session and all materials are housed. Learners will need a computer or smartphone and an internet connection to complete the course.
Course completion requirements: To complete the course and receive a certificate of credit, learners will attend the entire live session, and submit a course evaluation. Additionally, after attending the live session, learners will upload their name & email address to the course site, which GetPractice will use to verify attendance through Zoom records. Once a learner’s course evaluation and name/address have been submitted, GetPractice will verify attendance within 5 business days. Once verified, learners will receive a message notifying them that their certificate of credit is available.
