Course Overview

Description: Culturally responsive practice helps us engage in self-reflection about our own identities, talk with clients about their cultural identities, understand the larger environment in which we live, and use these insights to positively impact our work with clients and communities.

This training will explore key steps needed to move from self-reflection to action, with the goal of fostering culturally responsive, antiracist cultures in your work with clients and communities at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

Target Audience: Clinical social workers with an introductory knowledge of cultural competency

Practice Level: Intermediate

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Explain how self-reflection, cultural humility, and identity represent core principles of a culturally responsive community.

  • Apply an understanding of the impact of cultural and sociopolitical context to work with individual clients and communities.

  • Compare and contrast strategies for fostering culturally responsive and antiracist cultures, and modify skills to their roles as social workers and organizational leaders.
